- Apply a layer of essential oil first. The reason is that the skin can easily be damaged if you scrape directly on the dry skin with a gua sha board.
- Then starting from the middle line of the chest, put the gua sha board at an angle of 15-30 degrees diagonally against the chest and start scraping.
- Starting along the midline, drag the gua sha board towards the armpits as this is the way to drain the lymph. Scrape the gua sha board across the chest 3-7 times. Then after moving to the other side, work your way up from the bottom of the chest, always keeping it horizontal. Usually women will hear a crunching sound, which is the sound of the scraping pad breaking the fascia of the chest. During this process, a good scraper can determine whether the patient is left or right handed. This is because the hand side always has more fascia bound to it and is used to keep you lighter.
- Gently work your way up the sides of the neck, starting from the sides to the jawline. Be careful in the neck, as there are many veins and arteries on both sides of the neck. At the end of each stroke, be sure to sway slightly to help move the lymph. Repeat 3-7 times, ending at the midline of the neck, to the sternal notch to the chin.
- Move the scraping pad from the midline of the jaw to the joints of the jawbone, repeating 3-7 times. Finish with a slight wiggle to drain the lymph along the side of the face. No need to go back and forth, just move laterally to the ears, making sure to do each side.
- Move the tool to the valley of inspection and repeat the steps with 15-30 degrees, using light pressure, ending with a slight rocking motion to push out the lymph.
- Use the smaller side of the tool to gently scrape around the eyes, nose and mouth, always moving to the sides of the face. Repeat 3-7 times, holding the scraping pad at 15-30 degrees. Do not pull too hard on the skin. On the eyebrows, scrape to the hairline and then to the sides of the head.
- To increase the scraping effect, you can use the tool at the back of the neck along the midline, from the neck into the scalp.
