How to Get a Full Body Gua Sha Massage
1. Play Soothing Music.
Play some soothing music to bring a calm and relaxing vibe to the massage. Soft classical music or the sounds of nature are good choices.
- If possible, try to find out what type of music your partner/client likes. Remember, the massage is about them, not you, so you should try to cater to their tastes.
- Don’t play the music too loudly, it should play very lightly in the background. It should add to the experience, not tire it out.
2. Light Some Candles.
Candles are very relaxing, so lighting a pair around the room is a good idea.
- If possible, turn the lights down or turn them off completely and work only by candlelight. You want the person being massaged so relaxed that they almost fall asleep at the end, so the darker the better!
- Use candles with relaxing (but not overly strong) scents, such as Lavender or Sea Breeze, to help enhance the overall experience.
3. Use Massage Oil.
Oil must be used during massage. It helps your hand glide easily over the skin so you won’t be pulling, squeezing or any kind of pain for your partner/client.
- There are many fancy (and expensive) store-bought oils, but any natural oil will do. For example, if you have sunflower or grapeseed oils in your kitchen, you can use them for massage. Jojoba and almond oils are also very effective and have a pleasant aroma.
- You can even use coconut oil or sesame oil.
- You can add a few drops of essential oil to your massage oil. You should use pure (natural and pure) essential oils, not chemical perfume oils. Be aware that essential oils can penetrate your bloodstream, so choose wisely: choose a relatively mild one, like lavender or orange. However, if your partner/client is pregnant or has any serious medical condition, you should first consult a medical professional.
- Try to warm the oil and your hands slightly before applying the oil to your partner/client’s skin. Cold oil/hands are not good for relaxing massage!
- You can put the oil bottle in warm water to warm it up.
4. Have Enough Towels on Hand.
Make sure you have enough fresh, clean towels on hand to use during the massage.
- First, you need to cover the surfaces you are working on with a towel to protect them from the massage oil (which can get dirty).
- Second, you need towels to cover your partner/client’s body as you work on them. Ideally, they should be stripped to their underwear, leaving as much skin exposed as possible. You can then cover them with a towel to protect their modesty and keep them warm as you work on each part of your body.
- Third, during and after the massage, you need an extra towel to wipe off excess oil from your hands.
5. Make Sure the Room is Comfortable.
It is vital that the massage is performed comfortably in the room. If your partner/client feels uncomfortable throughout the massage, they won’t enjoy it as much!
- Make sure they have a comfortable place to lie down, such as a bed, soft rug, or a suitable massage table. Cover the surface with a soft towel to keep it clean and oil-free.
- Make sure the room is comfortable and warm. Remember that your partner/client will be partially undressed during the massage, so you don’t want them feeling cold. Use a space heater if necessary.
- Make sure the room you use for the massage is private and not disturbed by any other people, children or animals.
